.....Freedom Planning Board

. .
The Freedom Planning Board meets the first Thursday of each month at the Freedom Town Office at 7:00 PM.

The Freedom Planning Board is a municipal body made up of seven (7) town residents with responsibility for land use and ordinance proposals for consideration by the town. The Planning Board also oversees specific land use zoning responsibilities given to towns by the state, including (but not limited to) subdivisions and shoreland zoning.

Shoreland zoning applies to all areas within 250 feet of a lake or upland edge of a wetland or stream. If your property lies within the shoreland zone, you may need a permit for any activity within that zone.

Planning Board approval is required for new buildings and structures, piers, docks, wharves and bridges, mineral extraction, recreation site development (including campgrounds), parking areas, driveways and other construction as noted in the ordinance. Some timber harvesting restrictions also apply.

If you plan to divide land into more than 2 lots within a five-year period, you may need a permit under the state subdivision ordinance, depending on the original size of the lot being divided. Effective 2004, minimum lot size is two (2) acres. Please contact one of the Planning Board members if you have any questions or come to one of the monthly meetings.
